Bapt. at Whitburn, 9 Nov., 1604, son of John Hickes, rector of Whitburn, by his wife Alice Blakiston; of University College, Oxford, matric. 6 Dec., 1622, aged 18; B.A. 6 July, 1626; M.A. 9 July, 1629; licensed to the Perpetual Curacy of Monkwearmouth, 13 Sept., 1638; an intruder in Whitburn on the deprivation of Dr. Triplett; conformed, and abjured the Solemn League and Covenant, 17 Aug., 1662; Rector of Whitburn, where he was buried, 25 Aug., 1667. He married firstly Dorothy, dau. of John Heath of Ramside, gent., mar. at St. Giles, Durham, 15 Dec., 1631 (1673 May 6, Alicia, widow of Richard Hickes, lately Rector of Whitburn, buried, Washington Regs., this being the burial of his second wife). His son John Hickes, admitted to St. John's College, Cambridge, 19 Mch., 1652/3, aged 18, B.A. 1656/7, Perpetual Curate of Monkwearmouth on the resignation of his father 1662, died 1669, married Dorothy, dau. of John Smart of Harton, 12 May, 1664.
