A petition from the parish of Trelawny was prefented to his honour the lieutenant governor, by George Goodin Barrett, efq. member for that parih, praying, that the ports might be opened for the importation of provisions in foreign bottoms, in order to avert the impending calamity of famine.

Shaftesbury, Sept. 29. Yefterday afternoon about four o'clock, this place was violently hook by an earthquake; its direction was from S. W. with a rumbling noise. The effects were very great on the houfes near the edge of the hill; its continuance about two feconds. The people in the ftreets could vifibly fee the buildings move, particularly projecting objects, fuch as lamp irons, fign-potts, &c.

A naval port and royal arfenal are ordered to be marked out, with all poffible dispatch, at fome convenient fcite on the fouthern coaft of Scotland.
