PREFATORY REMARKS.

THE design of this work is, to relieve, in some measure, the Parochial Clergy, whose time is occupied in their pastoral duties, from the irksome labour of toiling through the ponderous folios of the Romish Councils and Decretals, the Bullarium Magnum, Baronius, &c. &c., when their parishes are invaded by the missionary priests, or the monks, or the Sisters of Charity and the other emissaries of the Church of Rome. It has no pretensions to literary talent; but the extracts may be relied upon, and safely quoted as genuine. Should the work answer the end for which it has been compiled, the author will be amply compensated for his trouble.

G. FINCH.
