DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD'S CALL.

You cannot serve God and mammon. Ver. 13. Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, heard all these things; and they derided him. Ver. 14.

But Jesus said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. St. Luke xiv. 16. And he sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready. Ver. 17.

And they began all at once to make excuse. first said to him: I have bought a farm, and I must go out and see it: I pray thee, have me excused. Ver. 18.

And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, have me excused. Ver. 19.

And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. Ver. 20.

And the servant returning told these things to his Lord. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame. Ver. 21.

And the servant said: Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. Ver. 22.

And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways and hedges: and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. Ver. 23.

But I say to you, that none of those men, that were called, shall taste my supper. Ver. 24.

DIVINE THREATENINGS.

Good master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting? St. Mark x. 17.

Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery do not kill: do not steal: bear not false witness: do not fraud: honour thy father and mother. Ver. 19.

But he answering, said to him: Master, all these things have I observed from my youth. Ver. 20.

And Jesus looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing is wanting unto thee: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor; and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come follow me. Ver. 21.

But he being struck sad at the saying, went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Ver. 22.

DIVINE THREATENINGS.

Every tree, that yieldeth not good fruit, shall be cut down, and cast into the fire. St. Matt. iii. 10.

Even as cockle, therefore, is gathered up, and burnt with fire, so shall it be at the end of the world. St. Matt. xiii. 40.

The Son of man shall send his angels: and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity; Ver. 41.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Ver. 42. So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just; Ver. 49.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Ver. 50.

And the unprofitable servant cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. St. Matt. xxv. 30.

Then shall he say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels. Ver. 41.

For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink: Ver. 42. I was a stranger, and you took me not in; naked, and you clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. Ver. 43.

Then shall they also answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? Ver. 44.

Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least ones, neither did you do it to me. Ver. 45.

And these shall go into everlasting punishment; but the just, into life everlasting. Ver. 46.

DUTIES TOWARDS CHILDREN.

Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of God. St. Mark x. 14.

And embracing them, and laying his hands upon them, he blessed them. Ver. 16.

He that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he

were drowned in the depth of the sea. St. Matt.

xviii. 6.

Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their Angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. Ver. 10.

Whosoever shall receive one such little child as this in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. St. Mark ix. 36.

DUTIES OF CHILDREN.

Honour thy father and mother: He that shall curse father or mother, let him die the death. St. Matt. xv. 4.

DUTIES AND COUNSELS OF CONDUCT TOWARDS OUR NEIGHBOUR.

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. St. Matt. xxii. 39.

All things, therefore, whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them; for this is St. Matt. vii. 12.

But I say to you, not to resist evil: but if any man strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. St. Matt. v. 39.

And if any man will go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. Ver. 40. And whosoever shall force thee to go one mile, go with him other two. Ver. 41.

DUTY TOWARDS RULERS.

Give to him that asketh of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not away. Ver. 42.

For if you love those that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans the same ? Ver. 46.

And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens the same? Ver. 47. And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thanks have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, for to receive as much. St. Luke vi. 34.

Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure, and pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you shall measure, it shall be measured to you again. Ver. 38.

DUTY TOWARDS RULERS.

Render to Cæsar the things that are Cæsar's; and to God the things that are God's. St. Matt. xxii. 21.

According to your faith, be it done unto you. St.
