T he Author of the following" Walks " has resided several years in Rome, the Mistress of the Fine Arts; and has had abundant leisure and every facility to visit repeatedly and in detail its treasures of ancient and modern sculpture. He has often regretted, and this regret has been participated by several of his Acquaintance, that, whilst there are not wanting notices of the works of the ancient master s preserved in the public and private Museums of Rome, the stranger is left without literary facilities of any sort to enable him to visit with pleasure and advantage the Roman Studii, which contain so many objects of interest to the enlightened Traveller. He therefore yielded to the solicitations of some kind friends, and resolved, to the best of his humble ability, to supply this desideratum; and has omitted no exertion to make this little volume a faithful transcript of the objects which it describes.
