The Pestilence drove him from Rome back to Naples ; and his learning and character acquired for him the Bishopric of Ugento, 1559, and afterwards of Cotrone, 1556, where he died 1574.

He did not give his attention to literature till the age of 30. He died at Florence 30 June 1642. His Life was written by Francesco Cionnacci; and an Eloge of him is to be found in Erithræi Pinacotheca, P. II. n. XXXI.

The name of ALDEANO was the Academical name of the Author, whose real name was NICCOLA VILLANI, of Pistoja; a learned Critic; and also a Poet. His Latin Satires are written with much elegance. Serassi speaks of these Satires in his Life of Torquato Tasso.
