SPRATT, M.A. AND A. PRETOR, M.A. FELLOWS OF ST. CATHARINE's college, CAMBRIDGE VOL. I. ORIGINAL PASSAGES RIVINGTONS WATERLOO PLACE, LONDON MDCCCLXXXIV e.l. PREFACE. THE object of the present volume is to supply the higher classes in our schools with a selection of passages from the best Classical Authors suitable for translation at sight. With this intention, and to prevent, if possible, the use of notes and commentaries, we have purposely withheld all references that might serve to identify the original extracts. A companion volume, containing the English renderings, is also published. Our best thanks are due to Mr. F. A. Paley, LL.D., for his kindness in contributing a selection of passages not included in our original scheme. A. W. SPRATT. A. PRETOR. ST. CATHARINE'S COLLEGE, February, 1884. |
