Rockford, Ill. Lady Victoria Lodge, No. 42, Daughters of Scotia, installed its officers, November 17, 1916. Grand Deputy Sister Nisbet, assisted by Grand Conductor Sister Edwards, were in charge. The Grand Deputy presented our retiring Chief Daughter with a P. C. D.'s pin and jewel. A spoon was presented to our Grand Deputy by our retiring Chief Daughter, Charlotte McKenzie, as a token of remembrance from sisters of Lady Victoria Lodge, No. 42. Sister Edwards was also presented with a spoon by our Past Chief Daughter, Margaret M. Jackson. Refreshments were served and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent. At the regular meeting, November 3, 1916, we had the pleasure of having with us our worthy Grand Chief Daughter, Mary Wallace, of New York, and Sister Connell, of Chicago. The Grand Chief Daughter gave us many new and valuable points in lodge work, and Sister Connell's singing and playing were enjoyed by all. A spoon was presented to the Grand Chief Daughter, Mary Wallace, by our own Chief Daughter. Charlotte McKenzie, as a token of the high esteem in which she is held by all the sisters, of Lady Victoria Lodge. BETH VIRTUE, Secretary. Scottish Home Rule Association, New York The regular meeting of the Scottish Home Rule Association was held at the Hotel McAlpin, Wednesday evening, December 13th, Dr. Law, the president, presiding. The annual report was read, which showed gratifying progress in the year just passed. Several important lectures have been given. The presentation of the plan for the Flora McDonald College by Rev. Dr. Charles G. Vardell, the president; the reading of the play, "Annie Laurie," by James H. Heron, and a talk on the restoration of the Highland Clans by the Chief of Clann Fhearghuis of Stra-Chur. The musical program was provided by Miss Christine Croall, the following artists, which were appreciated greatly, giving their services-Mrs. Furry, Miss Taylor and Mr. Thorpe. A large audience attended and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The present officers were elected for another year, with the exception of the recording 'secretary, which office was left open. Griffiths, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, preached the annual St. Andrew's Day sermon to the local clan, November 26th, his subject being the beauty, simplicity and greatness of character as displayed by St. Andrew, the patron saint of the Scots. Vancouver, British Columbia A large audience crowded the Vancouver Opera House to capacity the evening of December 12th, when Clan MacLean, O. S. C., gave a concert for the purpose of securing funds to provide members of a Canadian Scottish regiment with Highland dress. Harper's for January begins the new year with the first instalment of a charming serial by Booth Tarkington. Other interesting features are Waldenar Kaempffert's "The Automobile as a Factor in Reducing the Cost of Living"; Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt's "My Trip to the Front"; Harrison Rhodes' "What Is a Washingtonian?" a novelette by Mrs. Frances Hodgson Burnett, and eight splendid short stories. The American Review of Reviews for December contains an interesting article on the career of Premier Louis Botha; Mr. Simonds' interpretation of the Rumanian campaign and the latest phase of the German drive, the significance of the fall of Monastir, and the final triumph of the French at Verdun; the frontispiece is a striking portrait of the late Emperor Francis Joseph, of Austria. Scottish Country Life (monthly), Glasgow, contains many beautiful illustrations and articles of interest to Scots everywhere. The December number has a fine article on "Stirling" in its series of Famous Scottish Burghs; "The Red Triangle" describes the wonderful work of the Y. M. C. A. at home and at the front, both profusely illustrated, and the article on "The Gay Gordons" presents a striking portrait of the Most Honorable, the Marquess of Huntly, and pictures of Gordon castles and scenery.
