Heb. Delivering thou hast not delivered, Great hath been the surprise of many at these words of Moses, and which seemed to indicate his discontent at providence: for did not God tell him, chap. iii. ver. 19. “And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go." &c. -and verse 20, “And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with my wonders and after that he will let you go." Hence it is manifest, that they were not to go till after the wonders had been wrought; it may therefore be questioned why Moses murmured at present? To which Nachmanides answers, that Moses imagined, that as soon as he came to Pharaoh with the first message from God, and he refused to let them go, that God would immediately have brought the plague of turning the water into blood ; and if he still persisted in refusing to let them go, he would have brought more severe plagues, without intermission, till he let them depart. "But when he saw that God had not struck him with any plagues, and that' he did worse by them than before; he observed to Gud thus, “ Wherefore hast thou so evil intreated this

So called as some obşerve, on account of the succeeding great event performed thereon, viz. the giving of the Law.

$ The expression ang is derived from an, which means a sacrifice; (vide English translation of Psalm cxviii. ver. 27.) and it is farther explained, in ver. 3, that this is the meaning of the verb.

This means, upon Pharaoh and his people; but, out of respect to the king, he includes himself and his people.

| This refers to the people, not to Moses and Aaron,
