SERMON XXXII.-The History and Character of Balaam.
And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath
sent unto me, saying, Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which
covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure
I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out. And God said
unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the
people for they are blessed.-Numb. xxii. 10, 11, 12.....
SERMON XXXIII.—The Appearance of Samuel to Saul at En-dor.
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up?
And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war
against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more,
neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that
thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. Then said Samuel,
Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the Lord is departed from
thee, and is become thine enemy?—1 Sam. xxviii. 15, 16....................... 759
