ANATOMY.

The Board of Examiners.

1. Compare and contrast the hip and shoulder joints.

2. Describe the sacro-sciatic ligaments.

3. Describe the structures entering into the formation of the metacarpo-phalangeal articulations.

4. Describe the principal sutures in the skull.

5. Describe the relative positions of the parts exposed when (a) the deltoid and (b) the gluteus maximus muscles are removed.

6. Describe the origins, insertions, relations and functions of the following muscles :-scalenus anticus; external pterygoid; supinator brevis; rectus abdominis; diaphragm; flexor longus digitorum.

SENIOR DESCRIPTIVE AND SURGICAL

ANATOMY.

The Board of Examiners.

1. Describe the steps of the dissections necessary to expose fully the following structures, and mention in each case the relative positions of the parts successively brought into view:

(a) the brachialis anticus muscle.
(b) the auriculo-temporal nerve.

2. Mention in order the structures surrounding the ankle joint.

3. Describe the formation and relations of the sacral plexus. Name the branches arising from it, but do not describe them.

4. Describe the general appearance, connections and blood supply of the optic thalamus and corpus

striatum.

5. Describe the pelvic peritoneum of the female.

REGIONAL AND APPLIED ANATOMY.

The Board of Examiners.

1. Discuss the surgical anatomy of inguinal hernia.

2. Describe fully the actions and the nerve supply of the various muscles which move the foot.

3. Discuss from the anatomical standpoint the results of aneurisms of the different portions of the arch of the aorta.

4. Describe the cranial sinuses.

5. Discuss the topographical anatomy of the spinal cord and of the roots of the nerves arising from it.

6. Describe the arterial anastomoses around the scapula.

MATERIA MEDICA, MEDICAL BOTANY, AND ELEMENTARY THERAPEUTICS.

The Board of Examiners.

1. Give an account of the sources, varieties, and chief physical and chemical characters of Resins.

2. Name the officinal preparations of Phosphorus, give their strength and dose, and state the chief actions and uses of the drug.

3. Conium Maculatum.-Give its officinal parts, distinctive characters, composition, officinal preparations, and doses. How does it cause death?

4. Describe a distinctive colour reaction of each of the following alkaloids :-morphine, atropine, quinine, strychnine.

5. State the botanical source of Gallic and Tannic Acids, and state how they differ in nature, mode of preparation, and physical and chemical properties. Name their preparations.

6. How is Chloroform obtained? Give its officinal preparations, with their strength and doses, and state its chief actions and uses.

THERAPEUTICS, DIETETICS, AND HYGIENE.

PAPER I.

The Board of Examiners.

Candidates must answer all three questions.

1. Discuss the therapeutic actions of (a) Belladonna, (b) Strychnine, (c) Ergot.

2. For what purposes do we use (a) Conium, (b) Camphor, (c) Rheum?

Illustrate your answer with prescriptions.

3. What are the chief varieties of Baths, and what are their special advantages?

THERAPEUTICS, DIETETICS, AND HYGIENE.

PAPER II.

The Board of Examiners.

Candidates must answer all three questions.

. Discuss the dietary of (a) Corpulence, (b) Acute febrile disease.

2. Describe the mode of action of the principal disinfectants.

3. What are the characters of a good drinking water? Classify the principal impurities, and describe. how they may be detected and removed.

SURGERY.

FIFTH YEAR.

The Board of Examiners.

1. What is traumatic aneurism, and how is it formed? Describe the principal varieties of this affection. How would you treat a diffuse traumatic aneurism of the radial artery?

2. What are the symptoms of a recent dislocation of the femur on to the foramen ovale, and how would you reduce it? Describe reduction by manipulation, also reduction by the pulleys.

3. Mention the symptoms, and especially those which you consider to be diagnostic, of a fracture of the base of the skull. What are the usual causes of death in these fractures?

4. Describe the local appearances in a recent extensive scald on the trunk of the body, and give the local treatment from the commencement. Mention the principal sources of danger in these cases.

5. Describe minutely the symptoms and appearances in each of the following conditions:

(a) Obstruction in a complete inguinal hernia of the intestine.

(b) Strangulation in a complete inguinal hernia of the intestine.

Mention the leading differences between these two conditions, and give the proper treatment for each.
