THE Meetings of the Committee of this Society have been attended during the last month by the Earl of Romney, Rev. Sir Henry Thompson, Bart., Sir Thomas Phillips, Ven. Archdeacon Sinclair, Rev. Canon Jennings, T. D. Acland, Esq.; C. W. Puller, Esq.; and Richard Twining, Esq. Monthly Paper. This Number completes the series of Papers for 1856. The title-page and index of contents are as usual subjoined. Ten years have now elapsed since the first Number was issued; and it is gratifying to state that each successive year has gathered for the Paper additional friends and supporters in all parts of the country. The contributions from correspondents have mainly secured this increasing measure of success. In December 1855, the number of copies printed was 6000. Of this December Paper, and last month's Paper, 6750 copies have been printed; while in the previous months of the year 6500 have been printed; and it is very probable that a considerable increase will be required of the Number for the new year. Under these circumstances, it is possible that before long some trifling increase will become necessary in the charges for advertisements. During the past year an addition has been made to the Paper in appending some pages more particularly for the use of Sunday-school managers and teachers. Those who are interested in Sunday-schools are invited to send in inquiries and contributions for that portion of the Paper. Its usefulness and success must depend on their exertions. When a larger number of Sunday-school teachers are obtained as subscribers, no doubt the necessary measure of support and encouragement will be secured. Specimen copies of the Sunday-school portion of this Number will be supplied gratuitously on application to any teacher who may be disposed to distribute them, with a view to induce Sunday-school managers and teachers to become Subscribers. New Subscriptions. The following Donations and new Annual Subscriptions have been contributed since the last announcement, and are hereby thankfully acknowledged. The List is made up to the 20th November. Contributions may be paid to Messrs. DRUMMOND, Bankers, Charing Cross; to Mr. HENRY STRETTON, the Society's Receiver, 67 Lincoln's Inn Fields, to whom all Remittances should be made; or they will be received at the National Society's Office, Sanctuary, Westminster, or by any of the Local Treasurers to the Society, or by the Society's Travelling Agents. 05 0 5 0 0 02 6 Testimonial to Rev. Canon Fry. The Treasurer of the Society communicated to the Committee the gratifying result of the exertions of the friends of the Rev. Canon Fry in raising the sum of 1034l. 7s. 6d., to mark their appreciation of his self-denying efforts in training teachers. The Treasurer also expressed the best thanks of Mr. Fry for the Society's contribution of 257. The Bishop of Peterborough has shown his appreciation of Mr. Fry's merits by presenting him with an Honorary Canonry in Peterborough Cathedral. Westminster Female Training Institution. An examination of candidates for admission into this Institution will take place on January 7th, 1857. As only a limited number of students can be received, persons who are desirous of being admitted are requested to make early application to the Rev. A. Wilson, Sanctuary, Westminster, to whom all communications on the business of the Institution are requested to be addressed. Whitelands Training Institution. The following resolution was passed at a recent meeting of the Council of this Institution; and transmitted to Bishop Blomfield, with the signatures of the members of the Council attached: "The Whitelands Council cannot hold their first meeting after your Lordship's resignation of the Bishopric of London without desiring to express their very deep regret that a painful visitation of Providence should have made such a measure necessary. They further beg to offer their most respectful acknowledgments of the wisdom and paternal care which have marked your Lordship's connection with the Whitelands establishment from the time of its first formation, and to which they consider its present remarkable prosperity may be largely attributed; and they hope to be allowed to convey the assurance of the grateful sense they entertain of the uniform courtesy and kindness of your Lordship's demeanour towards the members of the Council during the whole time of your connection with the institution." Parochial Collections Fund. The following collections are a portion of the sums already remitted to the Society, being in lieu of those heretofore made under the anthority of the Royal Letter triennially granted in its favour. In the majority of dioceses the Bishops, in conformity with the recommendation of the Archbishop, have issued a Pastoral Letter, requesting the Clergy to preach a sermon, and make a collection in behalf of the Society. In most cases the suggestion which emanated from the Committee of the Society has been added, that the proceeds should be divided between the Parent Society and the Diocesan Board of Education. The returns printed below are those received from the undermentioned counties at the Receiver's office up to the 19th of November. They comprise, in some instances, the whole amount collected; in others only the moiety, the other half having been forwarded to the Diocesan Board. Collections from other counties will appear next month. Collections forwarded for the Society's General Fund are not included in this list, but have been acknowledged in the monthly list of contributions to the Society.
