He takes this opportunity of making his grateful acknowledgments for the kind patronage the work has met with during its progress; and he trusts that as it has been continued to the last with as much spirit as it was commenced, universal satisfaction has been given to his numerous Subscribers. Notwithstanding the enormous expense incurred in the production of the present Volume-upwards of SIX THOUSAND POUNDS-it is with reluctance that he abandons the intention he once entertained of proceeding with a second; but he has now turned his attention to the Illustration of the Waverley Novels, by means of a series of Views of the real scenes described, or referred to, in those admirable compositions.
