The favourable reception with which that Work has been honoured, induces me to hope that it may have been useful ; and encourages me to comply with a request repeatedly made, that I would publifh, at least, the fubjects of this Volume, they having been peculiarly acceptable from the Pulpit. Being an attempt to delineate the female character, from real examples, it may, perhaps, have the merit of interest with readers of that fex. And if it fhall, in any degree, ferve to maintain their importance, and to promote their improvement, fociety will have gained fomewhat from the publication.
