LONDON, April 19.-The danger which for more than two years has threatened the seclusion of Gray's Churchyard at Stoke Poges at last has been wholly removed. Last April an appeal was made by the Parochial Church Council of Stoke Poges for funds to purchase the ten acres of land which adjoins the churchyard and which seemed likely to fall into the hands of builders, to carry out repairs to the church tower and, if possible, to replace the steeple. Yesterday Cannon A. T. Barnett, the vicar, announced that the threatened land had been saved and that it will be handed over to a national trust on May 5. April 20 1425 |
