May it please your Grace, | PRESENT your Grace with the Life and Actions (as far as I could retrieve them) of one of your glorious predecessors in the chair of Canterbury. And how he discharged his most high and holy office in those critical times, wherein the newly Reformed Church (beset with enemies and malecontents) needed a very wise conduct, I leave your Grace, and other intelligent and impartial readers, (after perusal of these sheets,) to judge.
This commentary indeed, in course of time, should have followed that of Archbishop Parker's Life, but hath the fortune to appear in the world before it. The reason whereof was, the solicitation of a great many honourable, worshipful, reverend, and other inquisitive persons, who were desirous (upon an occasion sufficiently known) to understand more perfectly, who and what this Archbishop was, so long ago deceased, that almost all of him, but his
