A considerable time after the Memoir of Bishop Bull had been printed off, the Rev. H. I. Todd, (to whom the Author is much indebted for several references), had the kindness to transmit the following document from the Lambeth Register. It will not be unacceptable to some as an Ecclesiastical curiosity, as it contains the copy of a Conge de Retenir from Queen Anne to Dr. Tennison, Archbishop of Canterbury, on the behalf of Bishop Bull.

"ANNE R.

"Our will and pleasure is, that you grant your dispensation unto the Right Reverend Father in God, George,

Bishop of St. David's, that together with the said Bishoprick, he may retain and hold in Commendam, the Canonry, or Prebend, (which he now holds), belonging to the Cathedral Church of Gloucester, during his life, or his incumbency in the said Bishoprick, with the fruits, profits, and rights thereunto belonging. And for so doing this shall be your warrant. Given at our Court of St. James's, the sixth day of April, 1705, in the fourth year of our Reign." By her Majesty's command,

Father in God,

Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury.”

"To the Most Rev. Thomas, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, &c., The Petition of George Bull, D.D. Bishop Elect of St. David's, showeth, that the rents, revenues, and profits of the said Bishoprick of St. David's, are so small and slender, that they are not able to support the episcopal dignity of that See, without the help of some other seasonable remedy; and that he hath obtained her Majesty's Warrant to retain and hold in Commendam the Canonry or Prebend, (which he now holds), belonging to the Church of Gloucester, during his life, or his incumbency in the said Bishoprick, with all the fruits, profits, and rights thereunto belonging. May it therefore please your Grace to grant him your dispensation, whereby he may be enabled to retain and hold in Commendam, together with his said Bishoprick, the said Canonry, &c. “And he shall ever pray, &c."

11 April, 1705.
"Fiat prout petitur,

THO. CANTUAR."

"I think £10. a sufficient tax for this dispensation, if the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal think fit to concur with me in this opinion.

"THO. CANTUAR."
