EXTRACT FROM THE ADVERTISEMENT TO THE SECOND
EDITION.

In preparing the second edition of Jacobs' Latin Reader,
the work has undergone a thorough revision; notes have been
added, and many words, which had been omitted in the Dic-
tionary, are here inserted in their respective places. The
editor, in publishing this work in America, was influenced by
a belief, that it forms an easy introduction to the language and
character of the Roman world. He selected it as the best
from among many similar works, and is happy in finding his
judgment confirmed by that of many instructers. **** The
Second Part of the Latin Reader has in the mean time been
published.

Northampton, May 30, 1826.

ADVERTISEMENT TO THE STEREOTYPE EDITION.

The following are the most important changes, which have been made in the stereotype edition :-The accents have been used in all parts of the work; the emphatic words and sentences, which, in the two former editions, were designated by spaces between the letters, are now printed in Italics, thus rendering them more distinct; the model of the Dictionary has been entirely altered, and more than 1500 words, principally proper names, passive verbs, and participles, have been inserted. Boston, May 1, 1827.
