PRUSSIA.-The King of Prussia, we understand, is about to send to this country three clergymen, one for each of the schools of theology into which Prussia is divided, for the purpose of studying our method of managing the religious affairs of our parishes. The king's strong leading towards the episcopal form of church government is not now a secret, in any well-informed circle; neither can it be doubted, that in the movement of which we have just spoken, higher objects are aimed at than the mere arragement of an improved order of parochial discipline. We are old enough to remember the time, when such German divines as did visit this country invariably threw themselves into the hands of the dissenters, from whom they acquired the most erroneous notions as to the pride and indolence of the hierarchy. A better feeling exists now, and we are sanguine enough to believe that it will issue in such a junction among the great reformed churches of Europe, as must more than counterbalance, in guiding the minds of men, the weight of the church of Rome. France will do her best to oppose it, of course; for though she has no religion herself, she is not blind to the power which a steady religious feeling creates, even in small communities; so doubtless will Russia; for if protestant Germany becomes one with protestant England in faith, in worship, in communion, and moral principle, what will become of the influence of both nations in the great European family? We are standing on the edge of very eventful times, and shall not be surprised if our children have to witness such a revolution as has not occurred in the world since the foundations of Christianity were first laid. And of that, religion will be the instrument.

SAXMUNDHAM.-A meeting for the due observance of the Lord's-day was held at Saxmundham on Tuesday, the 30th of November, W. Long, Esq., of Hurts Hall, in the chair. The meeting was addressed by the Rev. E. Halland, of Benall, the Rev. Curtis, and the Rev. John Baylee, clerical secretary of the parent society.

THE NEW CHURCH IN WILTON-PLACE, KNIGHTSBRIDGE.-We are informed that it is contemplated to enlarge considerably the chancel of this church, by which means a large additional number of free seats will be obtained, the necessary funds for this purpose having been provided by a charitable individual.

ST. PANCRAS.-The friends of religion will be glad to learn that active steps are being taken with a view to provide a remedy

for the present great deficiency of church accommodation in Kentish-town, in the parish of St. Pancras, either by the erection of a new church in the lower part of the district, or by the rebuilding of the chapel upon a much larger scale. This chapel, with accommodation for not more than 750 is the only place of worship belonging to the established church in a population of nearly 10,000. A committee of several of the resident gentlemen has been formed, and a subscription commenced.

SABBATH DESECRATION IN THE NAVIGATION OF THE THAMES.-We are happy to learn, that in consequence of the exertions of Dr. Arnould, one of the magistrates for the county of Berks, there is every prospect of a great improvement being made in the observance of the Sabbath by the navigators of the Thames. On the motion of that gentleman, seconded, we believe, by the Rev. Mr. Evans, it was carried unanimously at a meeting of the Thames commissioners, that, "from and after the 1st of March, 1842, no barge or boat shall be allowed to go through any pound lock, within the jurisdiction of the commissioners of the Thames and Isis navigation, between the hours of six o'clock on Sunday morning and twelve o'clock on Sunday night.' Dr. Arnould's motion originally stood from "twelve o'clock on Saturday night," but to secure unanimity it was changed to six o'clock on Sunday morning. The resolution requires confirmation at the next general meeting at Oxford, on the 1st of January. It appeared from a recent report made by the chaplain of the county gaol, that, of eleven bargemen who had been, for various offences, consigned to that prison within the past twelve months, only three could repeat the Lord's prayer, or appeared to possess the least knowledge of their duties as Christians. The probable cause of this extreme ignorance on the part of this class of men was attributed, in the report in question, to their constant employment on the Sabbath.

BEDMINSTER.The parish of Bedminster is to be divided into three districts, containing each about 5000 or 6000 souls. The population having increased during the present incumbent's life about 16,000 souls, two more churches are about to be built, when the present incumbent shall have been met by the liberality of the Christian public. The benefice, with its several chapelries, being all one, will be divided into three or more detached incumbencies, the present patron, the Rev. M. R. Whish, having consented to make them such, in compliance with the suggestions of the venerable Bishop of Bath and Wells, and by his own right of patronage, as prebendary.
