committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.
19 I There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
94 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy - on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his
finger in water, and cool iny tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things : but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto hins, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
CH AP. XVII. 1 To avoid giving offence. 3 One to forgive another. 11
The ten lepers. 20 Of the kingdom of God, and the
coming of the Son of man. THEN CHEN said he unto the disciples, It is iinpossible but
that offences will come: but woe unto him through whom they come!
2 It were better for bim that a milstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should of fend one of these litile ones.
3 & Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
5 And the Apostles, said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mus. tard-seed, ye might say unto this sycamine-tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
7 But which of you having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go, and sit down to meat?
8 And will not rather say unto bim, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink?
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done, all those things which are commanded yon, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to da.
11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that be passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go, shew yourselves. unto the priests. And it came to pass, that as they went they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks : and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed! but where are the nine?
18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
20 | And when he was demanded of the Pharisees when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation :
21 Neither shall 'they say, Lo, here! or, lo, there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of
shall not see it. 23 And they shall say to you, See here! or, see there! go not after them, nor follow them.
24 For as the lightning that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Sou of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark; and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they tought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29 But the saine day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brinstone from beaven, and destroyed them .
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of mani is revealed.
si Iu that day he which shall be upon the house top, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not re turn back.
39 Remember Lot's wife.
S3 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
S4 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
CHAP. XVIII. I The importunate widow. 9 The Pharisee and publican.
15 Children brought to Christ. 28 All to be left for
Christ's sake. AN
ND he spake a parable uuto them to this end, that men
ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2 Saying', There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth mė, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with thein?
8 I tell you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith or the earth:
g And he spake this pårable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others :
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men aré, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”
14 I tell you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other : for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein.
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19. And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good savé one, that is God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
gi And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
29 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven : and come, follow me.
