your Lordfhip for its Head.
'Tis therefore an Act of Grati-
tude,

tude, nay of Justice, to make an Offering of them to your Lordship, who may claim them as your Right; and they have reciprocally a kind of Title to your Lordship's Protection, which they now humbly beg Your most honour'd

of you. Father and Grandfather (whose Memories are ftill as dear to all that knew them, as their Perfons were whilft alive) were pleafed to honour them with their Efteem; and their two most excellent*furviving Ladies, who are the Patterns and Ornament of their Sex, have likewife done me that Honour. I have therefore Encouragement enough to hope they will not be unacceptable to your Lord

For tho' they difagree from us in fome Articles of Faith, we all agree in acknowledging the indifpenfable Obligation incumbent on us, of practifing all the moral Duties of a Chriftian Life. Now these alone are the Subject of the following Discourses; and if I fometimes touch paffingly upon a controverted Point, it is not to conteft or difpute, but only to usher in fome particular Duty, with which it has a neceffary Connection.
