Could hardly think that an honeft plain Ser mon, Preach'd upon the Thirtieth of Janua ry, should be found fault with, only for preffing Duty and Obedience to our Gover nours, as far as Chrift and his Apoftles, and now our own most excellent Laws and Homilies, enjoyn every true Son of the Church to do.

Yet So it oftentimes falls out, that He, who means the leaft harm, is called the Incendiary; whilft the Perfon, that is really fo, paffes undiscovered. Tis of late, among fome great Pretenders to Moderation, a common thing to baul out Popery! Popery! as if his Holiness was juft at our Doors, and there was no manner of Danger from the Fanaticks, who really are fo; and wou'd be beartily glad to enter into them, and shut out the juft Owners thereof.

Now, fince they Both bold Rebellious Principles, why Should they not Both be equally caution'd againft? And when is fo fit and proper a Time as the Martyrdom of King Charles? Then certainly the Doctrine of PaffiveObedience, and Non-Refiftance, ought to be pressed bome: And the Preacher that does fo, ought not to be Animadverted upon, barely because be fated, and left the Doctrine, just as be found it, without Limitation; and was not willing to make a Loop-hole for Subjects, upon every pretended Grievance, to flip from their Obedience; upon a Day, when the Minifter who Officiates, is by the Rubrick obliged, either to read the Firft and Second Parts
