VII.

FALSE PROPHETS. WARNINGS AGAINST THEM.

Neh. vi, 8. 9. Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart. For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Deut. xviii, 20-22. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass,

that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

1 Kings xxil, 28. And Micaiah said, if thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Ilearken, O people, every one of you.

Isa. xliii, 8, 9. Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified; or let them hear, and say, It is truth.

Jer. xxviii, 7-9. Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people; the prophets that have been before me and before thee of old, prophesied both against many countries, and against great king doms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence. sent him.

Ezek. xiv. 9. And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

Ezek. xxiv, 24. Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all

that he hath done shall ye do; and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

Jer. xxiii, 9, 13, 30-32.
