A Treatise on "UNITY" known,
By BARROW, a name of renown,
In letters of gold should be shown
To all in the country and town.
All parties respectfully bow,
Pronouncing his eulogy true:
But many who wisdom allow
In theory, folly pursue.

That BARROW impression may make,
To Heaven we lift up our eyes:
That all may their Idols forsake,
JEHOVAH, in Zion arise.

O LORD, whose strong arm we intreat,
Awake, as in ages of old,

EXACTORS OF TITHES to defeat,
And HIRELINGS to drive from thy fold.

If truth may in Britain be heard,
Allur'd by the voice of the bard,

To countenance TITHES is absurd:

A Christian should HIRELINGS discard. Thus MILTON, the bard of renown, The dictates of JESUS express'd: Whose Majesty joining to crown, The traffic in souls we detest.

The bells of the horses we hear,
With "HOLINESS" destin'd to ring,
Then discord no more shall appear,

The discord of " Church and the king."
GOD's name shall on all things be found,
All hearts with his praises shall swell;
IMMANUEL's glory resound,

And on His SUPREMACY dwell:

[ocr errors]

A thought for the heart of a BELle.

An impulse impress'd on my mind,
I cannot the motion suppress,
That wisdom in women combin'd,
Develop'd, our country will bless.
Decreeing his purpose above,
JEHOVAH, to perfect his plan,
And crown his ineffable love,
Made woman the solace of man.

Ye daughters, like Deborah rise,

The forts of IDOLATERS storm;
The tents of the HIRELINGS despise,
And pray for a SOVEREIGN REFORM.

Like corner stones polish'd with care, (Ps. cxliv. 12.)
All hearts will your value confess,

And favour'd your counsel to share,

The praise of JEHOVAH express.

To find the philosopher's stone,
Research has been hitherto vain :

How TITHES may be best overthrown,
The mystery sought will explain.
"NO TITHES!" let the ladies proclaim,

SPEED THE PLOUGH! to turn all things to gold!

And sagely observing the same,

True Love the best crops will unfold.

Aspiring herein to engage

the ladies, in intellect bright,

When war with the HIRELINGS they wage,
They all will inflame with delight.
Increasing the fruits of the field,

And checking Religion's worst foes,
All hearts to their pleadings will yield,
For who could the ladies oppose?

Cultivation the secret is found,
Distinctly reveal'd from above:
The diligent hand shall abound,
Impell❜d by the philtre of LOVE.
And woman engaging herein,

Her love to the truth making known,
The hearts of the faithful will win,

And

prove THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE.

"The Clock of the Tongue should not be set by the Timepiece of Parasites, or of Sectarists, but should be regulated by the Dial of the heart," striking the accents of sincerity and truth.

Psalm xliv. 1.

Watchman, what of the night?—Isaiah, xxi. 11.

I.

Watchman, what's the time of night?

Ardently we look for light;

Taught of GOD, instruct us right;

Human priests deceptory.

II.

If you wish the time to learn,

If for purest love you burn,
To the Sacred Scriptures turn,
Asking God for wisdom's key.

III.

To their heavenly country true,
Christian soldiers death can view

Sweet and honourable too,

Bless'd with magnanimity.

IV.

Christians, buckle on your arms,
All whom love of glory charms,
Frighten'd not by war's alarms,

Fight till crown'd with victory.

ས.

Meroz curs'd, with one accord,
Who refus'd to serve the LORD,

As the Oracles record,

Branded stands with infamy.

VI.

Thus to truckle would be base,

Servile as the priestly race,
Christian courage who debase,
Slaves to wordly POLICY.

VII.

Clad in panoply complete,

Wave the shield of faith to beat

Priests who trample under feet

Heirs of sacred LIBERTY.
