BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PARSONS, born at Goshen, 79 Mass., November 7, 1827, married at Colchester, Conn., December 20, 1859, LEONORA FRANCES BARTLETT, born October 9, 1839, at Natchez, Miss. Benjamin F. Parsons graduated from Williams College in 1857, and was immediately appointed Principal of Bacon Academy, at Colchester, Conn. Here, two years later, he was married to Leonora Frances Bartlett. Together they became principals and proprietors of South Berkshire Institute, at New Marlboro, Mass. In 1870 they moved to Hopkinton, Mass., and in 1877 they took up their residence in Hawkinsville, Ga., where they still reside.

Leonora Frances Bartlett was daughter of John Chandler Bartlett and Lucy Ann Lathrop of Lebanon, Conn. She descends from eleven passengers of the Mayflower, two colonial governors, five governor's assistants, and several officers and soldiers of the colonial wars. This line has been carried back through several branches to the original pioneers, and, as with this Parsons line, no ancestor has been found who landed later than 1640, and none who were not English.

CHARLES LATHROP PARSONS, born at New Marlboro, 84 Mass., March 23, 1867, married, December 29, 1887, ALICE DOUGLAS ROBERTSON, born at Bluffton, S. C., June 20, 1870, daughter of James Douglas Robertson and Anna (Guerard) Robertson.

Charles L. Parsons graduated from Cornell University in 1888. Immediately after graduation he accepted the position of Assistant Chemist to the New Hampshire Experiment Station. In 1890 he was appointed Professor of General and Analytical Chemistry in the New Hampshire State College, at that time a department of Dartmouth College. In 1893 the New Hampshire College was, by act of the legislature, removed to Durham, N. H., where he now (1897) resides.

Alice Douglas Robertson was born at Bluffton, S. C. Her father, James D. Robertson, was born in Scotland, and is of the family of the Robertsons of Strowan. His grandfather, Lieutenant James Robertson, died from wounds received at Waterloo, and his great grandfather, Lieutenant-General James Robertson, was a prominent English officer of the Revolution and was Royal Governor of New York in 1779. Her mother, née Anna 84 Richardson Guerard, is descended from the two Landgraves Thomas Smith, Sir John Barnwell, the De Veaux's, Screvens, Bedons, Guerards, and other wellknown South Carolina families.

NOTE TO PAGE 105.

"I think there is little doubt that this is an erroneous conclusion, for, in the first place, the original record of this Parsons is written JO: which has been fully decided to be an abbreviation, at that time, for John, and not for Joseph, and also because he sailed for Virginia. In the early '20's the term Virginia was often used to mean America, but by 1635 Massachusetts Bay Colony and Virginia had become clearly differentiated. I do not believe that we have any record of Joseph Parsons whatever previous to the Indian deed, and I believe that when it is found it will include Richard Parsons and the whole family. Personally, I have little doubt that his father was Richard, and Thomas and Samuel his brothers." (Professor Charles L. Parsons.)
