SEED TIME. ANOTHER year is opening upon our view. The sparing hand of our God has been upon us. We have been unprofitable servants—we have been slothful labourers. But we have yet been spared. The unfruitful tree has not been cut down. The labourer is still left to sow the seed. We are allowed, as it were, to recommence our work. We are permitted once more to go forth and to scatter the seed of eternal life.

The passage of God's Word which meets us is from Eccles. si. 6, “ In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand : for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good."

Here we have first a command,—“Sow thy seed.” Go forth, labourer, and do a work for thy
