withstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than be. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. Matth. xxi, 32. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and yo, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

JOHN'S TESTIMONY TO CHRIST. Matth. xi, 2-6. comest thou to me? And Jesus answering, said unto him, Suffer it to be so now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

John viii, 37, 40, 59. I know that ye are Abraliam's seed: but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Jews took up stones again to stone John x; 31, 39, 40. Then the him. Therefore they sought again to take him, but he escaped out of their hand, And went away again beyond Jordan, into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.

VARIOUS SCENES OF CHRIST'S MINISTRY.

1.-TEMPTATION IN THE

DESERT OF JUDEA. Luke iv, 1-13. And Jesus, being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain,

showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusathe temple, and said unto him, If lem, and set him on a pinnacle of thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee; And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 2.-LABOURS AND TRAVELS

IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. Jesus had heard that John was Matth. iv, 12, 13, 23. Now when cast into prison, he departed into he came and dwelt in Capernaum, Galilee; And leaving Nazareth, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Naphthalim: And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel manner of sickness, and all manof the kingdom, and healing all ner of disease, among the people.

Luke iv, 14. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

John 1, 35-45, 47. Again, the next day after, John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
