I am seised of an annual rent of 40li., chargeable upon lands in the township of Woodhorn, for my life, by indenture of 20 March, 1682, between William, Lord Widdrington, baron of Blankney, Lincolnshire, since deceased, of the one part, and Sir David Foulis, a nominal trustee for me, on the other part, by which the said Lord Widdrington granted to said David Foulis 40li. on said lands for my use, annually, for my life.

* William Potts, whose register is abstracted in the text, was evidently a near kinsman of the Rev. John Potts of Everingham. See Register No. LXXVI.

George Potts of Southwaite in the parish of Hesket, Cumberland, by his will dated the 8th February, 1741-2, gave his property at Low Trewhitt to his sister, Mary Potts, charged with legacies to his sisters, Ann Amsbury and Christian Kellson. He died soon after making his will, and his sister, Mary Potts, described as of Southwaite, spinster, by deed dated 12th July, 1742, in consideration of £3,600, conveyed Nether Trewhitt, &c., to John Brown of Melguards, Cumberland. The deed was enrolled at Quarter Sessions. John Brown, the purchaser, voted in respect of Low Trewhitt at the election of knights of the shire in 1748.

William, third Lord Widdrington of Blankney and of Widdrington, married Lady Alathea Fairfax, daughter and heir of Charles Viscount Fairfax, in the peerage of Ireland. The lady whose register is abstracted in the text was evidently a kinswoman of Lady Widdrington. Or she may have been that Helena, daughter of Nicholas Fairfax of Gilling, who, with her sister Catherine, widow of Thomas Waterton of Walton in Yorkshire, enjoyed lands in Methley. cf. Estcourt and Payne, English Catholic Nonjurors, p. 317.
